Me? Little ole' me?
Nice ta meet ya... I'm Jean-Paul Bergeaux :)
General and Family
I was born on November 2nd 1971 in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the time of this writing, that makes me 26. I was raised as a Catholic, but my family was never very religious. I went to private schools for all my pre-college years (public schools in New Orleans were never an option for anyone). It seemed to me that more people went to private schools than to public in New Orleans.
When I was 8 my parents split up, and both are remarried now. Both of my stepparents are AWESOME people. I love them as my real parents, and I am so lucky to have 4 great parents. It took me a long time to accept some things about my parents splitting up, but I have been a much happier person since I came to terms with it. I have 2 wonderful sisters. Michelle and Angelle. Both are married to good men who love them very much. (And if they didn't I would kill em!) Michelle lives in Virginia and Angelle lives in Arizona (I miss ya!)
My studies n' stuff
I did absolutely AWFUL in high school. I failed Mathematics once, and barely graduated with a 2.1 average. I then spent a year out of school trying to get a direction. Then some good and bad things happened to me. Those of you that know me, know some of what happened. After I got my head straight and went to College at the University Of New Orleans. I majored in Electrical Engineering, following in the steps of a great role model and friend Larry Hurst. I later changed over to Mechanical Engineering due to my love of moving parts and cars in general.
The gist of the college story is that I changed my life for good. I shed all of my bad friends, and concentrated on school. (wouldn't you be scared if you were majoring in a Math oriented field and you failed math in high school?) I found out that my mom was right all along.. hard work does pay off. I eventually graduated with a 3.83 in Mechanical Engineering.
This is a story of someone who isn't very smart, but MADE things work. I decided that I was going to do good, and I did. So those of you out there, who for some reason or another doubt yourself, STOP IT!
While I was in college, I also found some other things I liked. One was working out. I am a gym rat, I admit it *sniff* :) I use the Gym as an escape and a place to work out my stress. I am a better person when I go to the gym and work out on a regular basis.
I also found out that I loved being involved in organizations, I love to argue:). I became a member of the Student Government Association by accident and it just grew. I was convinced to become a House of Representatives member for a year to help a local Recreation Center get support. Then I moved on and was voted in as the Engineering Senator for 2 years, and eventually was convinced to be a Justice on the Student Court (I really didn't have time to do it). As I suspected, I was duped into becoming the CHIEF Justice on the Student Court. (Doh!) I was also involved in many organizations along the way. From honor societies, to ethnic societies, to gym rat clubs... you name it I was involved.
Me now
After designing Off-shore platforms in New Orleans for a year, I decided to take a job up here in Virginia as a System Support Engineer for Silicon Graphics (SGI). I don't use my degree hardly at all, but I love my job and that's all that counts for me. My Mom, Step-dad, Sister Michelle and her family are all up here, and they wanted me up here with them. So I looked around and am so happy that I did. I love Northern Virginia, and wouldn't want to move anywhere else now.
There is much more to talk about... but I think that gives you an idea of who I am.
